J. Stephen Brown
J. Stephen Brown, (better known as Steve Brown), is a fifth-generation Wilson County native on both his mother's and father's sides. Steve's first job was delivering the Tennesseean newspaper on his bicycle, before moving up to shoeshine boy at Ideal Barbershop on the Lebanon square.
Steve was educated in the Lebanon public schools, graduating from Lebanon High School in 1971. Steve attended Cumberland Junior College, then received his bachelor of arts degree cum laude from the University of Tennessee. Steve graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Law in 1979, and was licensed to practice law that same year. While in law school, Steve worked as a student staffmember at the UT Legal Clinic, and also served as Vice-President of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. Prior to opening his own practice in Lebanon in 1983, Steve worked under Judge Rodney Ahles and Jim Kinnard in Lebanon, followed by a stint in Mt. Juliet at the law offices of Dean Robinson and Judge John Gwin.
Steve is married to Caroline Bowers Brown, a retired kindergarten teacher who is now employed at Cumberland University. They reside in Lebanon. They have one daughter, Erin, who is a professional stylist.
